This is a beta test release of Enigma for the Power Macintosh. It absolutely will not run on a 680x0 Mac.
If you are currently a user of Enigma you will find this version completely compatible but treat a beta test release with respect especially since a bug could cause data loss.
Make sure you have vaults and files created by Enigma backed up before using Power Enigma. Your reward is a vast speed improvement. On my Power Mac 6100 I can encrypt at 125 K/s, 10 times faster than a low end Quadra and probably around 3 times faster than an 840AV.
I'm taking the unusual step of releasing a beta version of PowerEnigma because I don't know anyone else who has a Power Mac and feel that the program needs a shakedown by more than its author.
If you redistribute PowerEnigma (which you are welcome to do) it is very important that this documentation be enclosed. Keep in mind that PowerEnigma will fail miserably if run on a 680x0 machine so it is important that potential users understand this before they download or try to use it.
The documentation enclosed described the current 680x0 version of Enigma but it is totally relavent to PowerEnigma except for one feature which is not yet available on the Power Mac. You can not create self-extracting vaults with PowerEnigma. This is because the application code for self-extracting vaults was stored in the data fork of Enigma. Unfortunatly (and a mistake by Apple in my opinion) PoworPC code is stored in the data fork of the application (this is to allow for fat binaries).
The next version of Enigma is intended to be a fat binary version that will run on either platform without concern about the underlying architecture.
Please let me know how PowerEnigma performs for you, even if its just to say everything works great.
Registering Power Enigma

You are welcome to register your copy of Power Enigma. If you do so now you will receive a copy of the latest 680x0 version of Enigma with full DES and 200 file vaults. And you will receive a free upgrade to the release version of Power Enigma or the fat binary version of Enigma whichever occurs first.
If you don't wish to register now but would be interested when the release version is available drop me a note (email or otherwise) and I will notify you when PowerEnigma is available.
Note to current registered users of Enigma. I consider Enigma and PowerEnigma to be the same product. When you upgrade to Enigma 2.4 you will receive a fat binary version.
Enigma 2.3 has substantial user interface changes. Because buttons have moved around and dialog boxes have been redesigned any macros you use with Enigma such as QuickKeys or AppleScript probably will need to be tweaked.
Selecting files in a vault has changed. Click and drag to select multiple files at once (NOT Shift-Click). Shift click and drag to make disjoint selections.
Compatibility Issues
===================
Basically Enigma 2.3 remains fully compatible with previous versions. But there are a few caveats:
Enigma 2.3 now remembers creation and modification dates on files. Those dates are restored when the file is decrypted. Files created by earlier versions of Enigma have invalid data where Enigma 2.3 stores this information. Therefore files restored by Enigma 2.3 which were created by previous versions will have bogus creation and modification dates (often sometime in 1904). This is harmless but can be annoying. The only way to avoid this problem is to decrypt any old files with your previous version of Enigma and then reencrypt them with version 2.3
Vaults created with earlier versions of Enigma are compatible but do not benefit from the new features: folders, comments, 200 file limit [Full DES only], etc... Create new vaults to get the new features.
Enigma 2.3 can not be used to edit Self Extracting Vaults created by earlier versions of enigma. The old self extracting vaults will continue to work just fine they just can't be modified.
